Exams, Marks Entry & Results

Schedule weekly tests, mock tests and term exams, enter marks quickly, check them before anyone sees them, and publish results with ranks and class averages to students and parents.

Scheduling an exam

Open Exams and click + New Exam (or New exam from a batch). Choose the batch and, if the exam is for one subject, the subject; set the date, start and end time, total marks and pass mark. The pass mark can't be more than the total.

Leave Tell the batch's students and their parents ticked and they get a notice in their portal and by email. The exam also appears under Coming up on their Results page.

Entering marks

  • Marks can be entered from the day of the exam. Today's exams, and earlier exams still waiting on marks or publishing, are listed on Today and counted in My Work.
  • The sheet lists the students who were in the batch on the exam date. Students who joined later are left off; a student who has since left keeps their mark.
  • Type a mark and press Enter or ↓ to move to the next student. Tick Absent for anyone who missed it. Clear a box to remove a mark.
  • The sheet shows how many students have a mark and warns you before you leave with unsaved changes. Marks above the total are refused.
  • If the exam has questions from the question bank, record each student's answers and objective questions are marked automatically.

Publishing results

Saved marks are a draft that only staff can see. When you are ready, click Publish results. You are told first if any students still have no mark. Each student with a mark, and their parents, get a notice in their portal and by email. Corrections after publishing show straight away without notifying again. Published by mistake? Unpublish hides the results again until you publish.

Ranks, averages and result cards

  • Rank in batch: by marks among the students who sat the exam. Equal marks share a rank (two students on 80 are both 2nd; the next is 4th). Absent students are not ranked.
  • Results page: the batch average, highest and lowest marks, how many passed, each student's percentage, and who still has no mark. Export it to a spreadsheet from the same page.
  • Result card: one student's marks, percentage, pass or fail, rank, and the batch average and highest, with your centre's logo. Click Print for a one-page copy or to save it as a PDF.
  • Rank certificates: issue one from the Results page for any student who passed.

What students and parents see

Published results only, newest exam first, each with the marks, pass or fail, rank, and the batch average and highest. Upcoming exams are listed above them.

Changing, cancelling or deleting an exam

  • Change the date or time with Edit. Students and parents are told if the exam hasn't happened yet.
  • To call it off, set its status to Cancelled. Students and parents are told, and a cancelled exam takes no marks.
  • An exam with no marks yet can be deleted from its Edit page. Once marks exist it can't move to another batch, and its total can't go below the highest mark entered.
